Speaking Different Languages?

The Social Capital Markets Recap event at the MaRS was an experience in having a number of my interests converge. The panel presented a synopsis of a conference held on this subject in October. The audience was mixed. It was made up of people with interests in finance and investment, social economy types, especially ones interested in social enterprises and social media geeks.

I found myself listening to the presentations wearing my social economy researcher hat and my nonprofit hat. What became clear to me as I listened was the potential difficulty most medium to small nonprofits might experience with the language. These organizations are the ones that would most benefit from social capital marketing, yet most of the people engaged in these enterprises would not be familiar with the terms being used. In the discussion I suggested that what would be beneficial would be a 'social financing 101' event where people might learn to share the same language.

As a result, I began to investigate other members in the Social Inovation Group (SIG@MaRS)and found this small video

This would be a beginning...a place to start discussion.

Great Beginnings

For the next three months I am going to experiment with blogging and will try to develop a regular practice of publishing some content every second day. I have always been able to start off well, but then lose momentum as other things grab my attention. It is not as if I lack information to share, its more about making the sharing a part of my schedule.

Tomorrow I am going to go to a MaRS event, Social Capital Markets Conference Recap Actually going for two reasons. One, I need some inspiration for my post doc and two this is something to monitor for Metaviews. It should provide some grist for this blog
